Five Undergraduate Cultists Arrested After A Successful Hit

Five undergraduates of a tertiary institution in Owerri, Imo State, have been arrested for alleged involvement in secret cult activities.

The Imo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps said the youths were nabbed after an alleged cult operation.

The suspects were identified as Odili Ugochukwu (29), Jacob Emmanuel (20), Amakor Nnaemeka (19), Ihedioha Osita (20) and Ekeh Chima.

The state Commandant of the corps, Mr Raji Ibrahim, on Thursday at the command headquarters in Owerri said the undergraduates were arrested around 10.45am at a hostel called GNG, immediately after the operation at Eze Lodge on Friday, October 26.

He said, “The suspects confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity. They were arrested by our personnel deployed in the campus following a tip-off.

“The exhibits recovered from the suspects are two locally-made pistols, two axes, one machete and a DVD player.”

One of the suspects, Odili Ugochukwu, confessed that he and others were members of the Black Axe, adding that if he was released, he would never return to cultism.

“We had successfully concluded a hit at the GNG hostel before the civil defence men arrested us.

“We did not kill anybody. The hit was just to warn the students. We will give you all the necessary information about other guys who ran away,” he added.
