The police in Gombe said they have arrested a 40-year-old resident of the state for allegedly stabbing his uncle to death.

Addressing journalists at the state command’s headquarters, the Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Garba Mukaddas, said the suspect, Yela Banjo, of Dadidop-Burak village in Shomgom Local Government Area of the state was arrested by operatives of the Pero-Chonge Divisional office.

Banjo was alleged to have on November 3 at about 8pm trespassed into his uncle’s house, one Zabauru Maisamari, 70, of the same village and removed a plank of wood used as roofing sheet and attempted to flee with it.

It was learnt that when the uncle heard his nephew struggling to take away the plank, he rushed out from his room and attempted to stop him. However, the suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased with a spear in his chest and ran away from the scene.

According to the police, the deceased was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead.
