Adele and Simon Konecki confirmed their split on Friday after an eight-year relationship and three-year marriage.

The superstar singer, 30, reportedly plans to base herself in London to be close to her mother and so her six-year-old son Angelo can have a British education.

The Tottenham-born singer, who has an estimated fortune of £145 million, flew into the UK three weeks ago to spend time with her mum, Penny Adkins.

In their separation statement, the pair said they were 'committed' to raising their son together 'lovingly' and are believed to have split amicably.

Adele, who is thought to be recording a new album in New York, has been with Konecki, who is 14 years her senior, since October 2011.

Despite this, rumours about their rocky relationship have plagued the couple for years.

In 2014, it was claimed that Konecki had moved out of their London home and into his bachelor pad in Brighton.

Adele eventually responded to the reports on Twitter, writing: ‘Just wanted to wish everyone happy holidays & all the best for 2015! PS Simon & I are still very much together, don’t believe what you read x.’
