She reminisced about her Met Gala looks on her Instagram earlier in the day.

On Monday, Kim Kardashian arrived at the 2019 Met Gala in a stunning caramel coloured gown that accentuated her hourglass figure - a Thierry Mugler creation.

The 38-year-old reality star dazzled on the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City while posing with husband Kanye West.

She told E! News that designer Thierry 'envisioned me a California girl stepping out of the ocean dripping' for her Met Gala look: 'That is the vibe tonight.'

Kim added that the look was 'eight months in the making.'

The entrepreneur said to the E! reporter: 'This is the first time in 20 years Mr. Mugler has designed for the House of Mugler,' calling it an 'honour' for him to design it for her.

The dark-haired beauty revealed that the wet hair look was part of Thierry's overall vision for Kim.

Kim said the frock had a 'proper corset,' which highlighted her ample cleavage and her tiny waist.

The number had buttons down the centre with ruching along the midriff, hips, derriere and sleeves with delicate crystals hanging all over.

Kim sported wet looking curly locks with a brown shadow around her lids, nude lipstick on her full pout and defined brows.

Meanwhile, Kanye chose a $42 Dickies jacket for the star-studded fashion extravaganza; the Dickies men's twill insulated Eisenhower jacket is also available to purchase at Target.

The 41-year-old rapper paired the affordable cover-up with matching hued bottoms and boots.

When asked by the E! reporter what she was looking forward to eating most post-Met Gala is doughnuts, which she will get delivered.

Kim said she is dreaming of eating 'hot doughnuts vanilla with rainbow sprinkles.'

The Met Gala is the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute and is the most glittery and exclusive event on the New York fashion calendar.

It is famous for attracting luminaries of Hollywood, of fashion, music, sports, TV and the stage for an evening of fashion and charity to mark the museum's spring exhibit.

This year, the exhibit and gala are dedicated to the idea of 'camp,' as defined by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay Notes on 'Camp.'

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is always chaired by a team of high-wattage celebrities, and this year is no exception.

The event is chaired by pop star and actress-of-the-moment Lady Gaga, tennis star Serena Williams, and singer Harry Styles, along with Gucci designer Alessandro Michele and, as always, Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Wintour said she believes this year's Met Gala to be about 'self-expression' and 'individuality', noting that she wanted to see 'outrageous, fun, tongue in cheek' fashion on the red carpet.

The new theme seems decidedly more lighthearted than last year's hugely successful Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, about the relationship between fashion and Catholicism.

That sumptuous, sprawling show drew more visitors than any Costume Institute exhibit — more than 1.3 million to the Met's main Fifth Avenue location, and nearly 200,000 to its Cloisters branch — and indeed was one of the most attended shows in the museum's history.
