We are waging war against kidnappers, bandits – IGP

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has declared that the police are currently waging war against criminals involved in the act of kidnappings and banditry by flushing them out of their hideouts.

According to him, the Police were more than ready to stamp out criminality from every part of Nigeria and ultimately protect the lives and property of the citizenry.

He disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists at the Governor’s office in Osogbo, the Osun State capital during a visit to the state as part of efforts to engage stakeholders within the South-West geopolitical zone on a better way to fight insecurity in the region.

Adamu, while assuring residents of the state of safety said police have concluded plans to raid the identified bandits’ den where kidnapping activities are being carried out.

Speaking on the outcome of his engagement with critical stakeholders on security during a summit held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital on Monday, the Police boss said there was a resolution at the meeting to send special forces who are indigenes of states within the zone to their localities for better performance due to familiarity with the terrains.

“We are specifically ready to target the forests where there are bandits and kidnappers. So that war can be taken to their den before they strike.

“It was also resolved to work with other securities; more or less like vigilantes to work with us and fight crime as the Governors have pledged to continue to support law enforcement agencies in their fight against crime by buying vehicles and other logistics.

“I am delighted to note that the strategies jointly developed between the strategic community actors and the Police which are currently being implemented have been effective in addressing the identified security threats in the geopolitical zone.

“This is evident by the fact that since the meeting, the rate of crime has not only dropped drastically, several bandits have voluntarily renounced crime, submitted their weapons and released several victims that had hitherto been kidnapped and held in their camps across the Zone”.

The Governor, Mr Gboyega Oyetola, in his remarks, expressed delight in the present security measures in the zone as he commended the IGP for taking proactive steps to curb insecurity.

“The visit of the IGP is to reassure our people to take security very seriously; when you see the number one police officer in the state, that shows that he is particular concern about the issue of the security

“I also want to reassure our people that the IGP is on top of the security situation in Nigeria.”

Two ways Manchester United could line up with Donny Van de Beek transfer

Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek.

The Guardian report that United are hopeful of signing the Dutch star who has attracted interest from several other elite clubs.

Van de Beek, 23, starred in the Ajax team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season and is one of Europe’s most talented young midfielders.

We looked at two ways United could line-up next season if they complete the signing of the versatile Dutchman.

This system would allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to accommodate each of his most potent attacking threats.

While Van de Beek is most effective in a box-to-box role, he has experience shielding the back four and could provide the platform for Paul Pogba to roam in a double midfield pivot.

Van de Beek made six appearances in the defensive midfield role for Ajax in the 2019/20 season and has the ability to operate as Solskjaer’s anchorman ahead of Nemanja Matic.

However, Matic offers a more experi…

She had maintained that she would not date anyone in the house but Ozo is still trying and working hard to see if she could change her mind.

De Gea hailed by Henderson but warns him for No. 1 spot battle

Dean Henderson has cautioned David de Gea he is aiming for his Manchester United place. The 23-year-old goalkeeper will retreat to Old Trafford after an exceptional loan spell at Sheffield United, determined to take the 1st spot off the Spaniard.

Academy alumnus Henderson recently signed a new six-year contract last month among connections to Chelsea. Thus, making it obvious he sees himself at Old Trafford for the long term.

“I’ll be moving back in the first day of pre-season and sweating my b******s off to get in that starting line-up because it’s something I’ve constantly required and I’m so close now. I have tremendous respect for David. He has been a magnificent goalkeeper for many years.

He’s been remarkable and that’s something I strive to be, to have a profession like his at the club. It’s down to me but I’m beneath no fantasies that I’m going to develop just sat on the bench. I need that game-time.” said Henderson.

Unfortunately, De Gea’s form has come into inquest over the last …
