EPL: Jamie Redknapp questions Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s credentials to manage Manchester United

Jamie Redknapp has questioned Manchester United’s decision to appoint Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Jamie Redknapp believes that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was ‘very lucky’ to have been appointed Manchester United manager and questioned whether he has the pedigree for such a big job. Solskjaer was drafted in on an interim basis last December following Jose Mourinho’s sacking and after overseeing a significant upturn in results, he was handed the job permanently in March.

Since then, though, United have struggled badly winning only five games in all competitions since March and just twice in the Premier League this season. Manchester United have endured a difficult start to the season.

Although Redknapp dismissed Solskjaer’s credentials to manage a club of United’s size, he suggested that they could struggle to find an upgrade if they decide to dismiss him.

‘Whatever way you dress this up, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a very lucky man to get this job,’ Redknapp said on Sky Sports. ‘He managed Molde and he managed Cardiff. Is that really the credentials to manage one of the biggest clubs in the world? I don’t think so.

‘Do you give him time? There comes a point where if this carries on, you can’t it is impossible. But the problem is, who is out there right now better than him? ‘If you didn’t know any better the next man you would be looking at Jose Mourinho, and he had a go at it and he failed. This is a very difficult job right now.’ United made an excellent start to the campaign by thrashing Chelsea on an opening day but since then they have won only twice in nine matches in all competitions.

A dismal 0-0 draw away to AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday in which United to register a single shot on target has seen the pressure on Solskjaer increase further.
