PDP: We’re confident of victory in Essien Udim rerun election

‘Why we voted out PDP in Bayelsa’
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has said it is ready and confident that it would win the state and National Assembly rerun elections in Essien Udim local government area.

State Chairman of the party, Obong Paul Ekpo in a press conference Friday urged all party faithful in Essien Udim and the entire state to rest assured that the party will reaffirm its victory at the rerun election.

”For the rerun in Essien Udim Local Government area which will hold for the State and National Assembly, we can assure the world that we are making adequate preparations for the elections.

“We will go to this election, like we went to the previous, with the name of the Lord and as before, we will win again.

“Only God saw us through the most turbulent elections in our state’s history and we are more than certain that with HIM at the fore, our victory in all of the rerun elections is sure.

“Very soon we will roll out our campaign timetable which will be vigorously pursued. We charge our ward and chapter officers in Essien Udim to begin to energize our grassroots structures in preparation for our impending roll out”, he said.

Ekpo expressed satisfaction with judgments of different panels of the Court of Appeal in Calabar, adding that it was a surprise that PDP won in all except one.

“They have completed their task and have delivered judgements on all appeals emanating from the judgements of the Election Petition Tribunal for the 2019 National and State House of Assembly elections held on February 23 and March 9 respectively.

“The Appellate Court has upheld all the Tribunal judgements that were given in our favour, except one and the only judgement that was given by the Tribunal against us has been quashed and re-election ordered.

“We sincerely appreciate the intellectual industry invested in the delivery of the judgments by the Learned Justices of the Court of Appeal.

“They have proven to the world that our country’s judiciary is constituted by persons of towering integrity and unbending honesty, applying extant laws to presented facts and delivering judgements according to Law, irrespective of political affiliations.

“This explains why we have accepted all the Judgements of the Court in good faith, even when one did not go in favour of our Party,” he said.

The PDP state chairman admonished lawmakers of the PDP stock whose victories were revalidated by the Appeal Court to be magnanimous in victory by extending their service to everyone in their constituency regardless of party affiliation.

“To our successful Lawmakers, whose seats have been judicially confirmed, we urge them to see their mandate as a call to service and not a mark of superiority over their constituents.

“They should endeavour to reach out to their fellow contestants and share knowledge for the good of the state. A reasonable victor must be magnanimous in victory.

“We must keep in mind that at the end of the tenure, the verdict of the people will be given on our performance. However, in this instance, all our victorious candidates deserve our congratulatory felicitations.

“To our party faithful in Mbo, I urge them to accept the judgement of the Court of Appeal reversing our victory at the polls and exhibit political maturity. They must ensure that a peaceful political environment is preserved in the best interest of the Akwa Ibom project”, he maintained.

Two ways Manchester United could line up with Donny Van de Beek transfer

Manchester United have emerged as frontrunners in the race to sign Ajax midfielder Donny Van de Beek.

The Guardian report that United are hopeful of signing the Dutch star who has attracted interest from several other elite clubs.

Van de Beek, 23, starred in the Ajax team that reached the Champions League semi-finals in the 2018/19 season and is one of Europe’s most talented young midfielders.

We looked at two ways United could line-up next season if they complete the signing of the versatile Dutchman.

This system would allow Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to accommodate each of his most potent attacking threats.

While Van de Beek is most effective in a box-to-box role, he has experience shielding the back four and could provide the platform for Paul Pogba to roam in a double midfield pivot.

Van de Beek made six appearances in the defensive midfield role for Ajax in the 2019/20 season and has the ability to operate as Solskjaer’s anchorman ahead of Nemanja Matic.

However, Matic offers a more experi…

BBNaija 2020: I will find you a Bayelsa wife, someone like me – Nengi tells Ozo

Big Brother Naija housemate, Nengi, on Sunday said she will find Ozo a Bayelsa wife.

Nengi said this when Ozo said he wanted to take her on a trip after the reality show.

Ozo, however, said he was not interested in another Bayelsa wife.

“I will find you a wife when we leave this place. I will find you someone like me from Bayelsa,” Nengi told Ozo.

But Ozo responded, “if I wanted someone else, I would have chosen.”

Nengi further stated that, “When we leave the house there will be a lot of girls interested in you and you won’t have my time.”

Agreeing that it was a possibility, Ozo insisted he had found something special in her.

Nengi had warned Ozo against mistaking their friendship for a love relationship.

She had maintained that she would not date anyone in the house but Ozo is still trying and working hard to see if she could change her mind.

De Gea hailed by Henderson but warns him for No. 1 spot battle

Dean Henderson has cautioned David de Gea he is aiming for his Manchester United place. The 23-year-old goalkeeper will retreat to Old Trafford after an exceptional loan spell at Sheffield United, determined to take the 1st spot off the Spaniard.

Academy alumnus Henderson recently signed a new six-year contract last month among connections to Chelsea. Thus, making it obvious he sees himself at Old Trafford for the long term.

“I’ll be moving back in the first day of pre-season and sweating my b******s off to get in that starting line-up because it’s something I’ve constantly required and I’m so close now. I have tremendous respect for David. He has been a magnificent goalkeeper for many years.

He’s been remarkable and that’s something I strive to be, to have a profession like his at the club. It’s down to me but I’m beneath no fantasies that I’m going to develop just sat on the bench. I need that game-time.” said Henderson.

Unfortunately, De Gea’s form has come into inquest over the last …
