Will Burnaboy clinch the Grammy for Nigeria?

Burna Boy nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd annual #GRAMMYs
Following the nomination of Nigerian Afro-fashion singer, Damini Ogulu, aka Burna Boy, for the 62nd Grammy Awards, there is increasing. Ogulu’s nomination was announced in a statement on the Grammy Awards’ website on Wednesday. He was shortlisted for his album, ‘African Giant’ in the Best World Music Album category.

He is competing for the award with Altin Gun (Gece), Bokanté & Metropole Orkest Conducted By Jules Buckley (What Heat), Nathalie Joachim With Spektral Quartet (Fanm D’ayiti) and Angelique Kidjo (Celia).

The nomination is for albums containing at least 51 per cent playing time of new vocal or instrumental world music recordings.

When the news broke, Burna was congratulated by his fellow Nigerian artistes like Wizkid, Davido, Banky W, and Don Jazzy. And since its announcement, there has been so much optimism that Burna Boy will clinch the Grammy. Should that happen, he would have confirmed himself as ‘African Giant.’

And the big question on many people’s lip is whether Burna will break the jinx and bring the Grammy back to Nigeria. In the past, King Sunny Ade, Babatunde Olatunji, Femi Kuti and Seun Kuti have been nominated for Grammy.
