Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, will play the King of Pop in the Antoine Fuqua biopic

It was going to take a lot of work to portray the on-screen phenomenon that was Michael Jackson’s singing and dancing.

This may help to explain why the filmmakers of a proposed biopic chose a family member to portray the title role in “Michael,” which will begin production this year. Jaafar Jackson will play the pop icon.

Jackson, 26, is the second-youngest child of Jermaine Jackson, 68, Michael’s brother and former member of the Jackson 5, who is also his father. Michael Jackson, whose career included central singles and ongoing scandals, passed away in 2009 at the age of 50.

Here is all the information currently available about the movie.

There are already many Michael Jackson tributes.

In addition to impersonators, Jackson’s iconic songs have served as the inspiration for other official productions, such as:

Jackson’s 1992 “Dangerous World Tour” is the subject of the Broadway play “MJ: The Musical,” which is now playing. Myles Frost makes his Broadway debut in this work, which was written by Tony Award winner Christopher Wheeldon and Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage.

The show “Michael Jackson One” by Cirque du Soleil is currently playing in Las Vegas. It is inspired by Jackson’s huge record and follows “four misfits” on a quest for self-discovery.

“Who’s Evil? Michael Jackson’s Experience is a touring production that has been performing all over the world since 2003 and recreates some of Jackson’s most iconic songs and videos.

Jaafar Jackson: who is he?

Surrounded by his musical family, Jackson grew up in Los Angeles. His debut song, “Got Me Singing,” was released in 2019 and came with a Brazilian-shot music video. From the rapid Latin percussion to Jackson’s pleading vocals, the song sounds remarkably similar to his uncle’s music. On rooftops in Brazil, Jackson also displays some impressive dance routines.

Jaafar represents my son, I say. Katherine Jackson, Michael Jackson’s mother, stated in a statement supplied by Lionsgate Films, “It’s so lovely to see him carry on the Jackson legacy of entertainers and performers.”

The Queen biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody” was produced by Graham King, who is also credited with the following: When I first met Jaafar more than two years ago, I was astounded by the way he so naturally personifies Michael’s energy and character. Even after an extensive search throughout the globe, it was obvious that he was the only one qualified to fill this post since it was something so potent.

Who is in charge of the next Michael Jackson film?

A large cast of Hollywood veterans will be working on the next biopic, which is set to start filming this year. Antoine Fuqua, who helmed the Denzel Washington blockbuster “Training Day” in 2001 and the Will Smith movie “Emancipation” in 2022, will be directing the movie, which has no title yet.

In a picture posted on Instagram by Fuqua, who wrote the following caption: “I’m excited to reveal @jaafarjackson as Michael in the upcoming movie that chronicles the life of the man who rose to fame as the King of Pop. Coming shortly.”

John Logan, who penned “Gladiator,” Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning film, is now working on the screenplay. Martin Scorsese’s “The Aviator,” which he co-produced with producer King, also featured him.

Will this be a legally approved MJ biopic?

Yes. The numerous scandals that surrounded Michael Jackson’s life are not expected to be heavily featured in Fuqua’s biopic either, as it is being made with Jackson’s estate’s approval and under its supervision.

Katherine Jackson, John Branca, and John McClain, who have both represented Jackson for many years and are co-executors of her estate, will both be closely monitoring what is depicted in the film.

After a young kid accused Jackson of “sexual violence” in the early 1990s, the Los Angeles Police Department looked into the matter. Authorities arrested Jackson in 2003 on suspicion of child molestation during a raid on his Neverland Ranch home.

Jackson was cleared of all charges in 2005, despite consistently maintaining his innocence. Jackson passed away four years later when his physician gave him an excessive dose of the anesthetic propofol, which was given to the singer to aid in sleep.
